In the wake of The Last of Us’ 24 Emmy Nominations, and our colleges going on strike to save filmmaking as we know it, I thought there wasn’t a better time to finally finish this reel and share it. This is a POV of just a small piece of what it takes to make a TV show. 1000’s of us collaborated from all types of backgrounds and skills and gave it everything we had (because that’s what we do), and with that, the attention to detail is astounding!! Something you would say, only a real-life human could do 😉
My job on this show was to make Props look old and weathered, and as you can imagine there was plenty of that to go around. Here are just a few of the items we worked on over a 14 month period, do you recognize anything ?

With heavy hearts, we were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of a dear friend, colleague, mentor, and union sister Wendy Eakins. We will never forget her words of encouragement and the advice she shared with us over the years. We were so lucky to have her come teach a workshop at Costume Alchemy in the early days of 2020, her passion for teaching was so inspiring. She will be sorely missed in the costuming community.

WOW!!!! YYC ROCKS!!!! Since the newspaper article for Calgary Herald was published we have had a huge outpouring of support! We are doing our best to keep up with emails and phone calls!! We are receiving tons of fabric donations over the next couple days from @robertsweephome @calgarywindowfashions , @wfw_intl , @fabricdepotyyc, @fdscenechanges and many more individuals from their homes. Thank you for stepping up!!! We are in the process off getting kits together with patterns, fabric, and notions to be sent out to stitchers. So if you have reached out to us about sewing please forgive us for not getting back to you right away, we will be contacting you once we have packages ready to go!! Again, Thank You Calgary!!

We have been Overjoyed with the response from stitchers all across the city, and now we just need the fabric!! Each gown is around 3.5m, so we will need around 525m of fabric to fulfill this order! We are looking for Polyester, Cotton/Polyester blends, and Cotton. We are also looking for Jersey Knit for the cuffs, thread, and wide twill tape for the ties. We are in the process of putting together kits to send out which will include a physical pattern or a digital pattern that you can print at home. Please Email us at Costume.Alchemy.YYC@gmail.com if you have supplies that you can donate. We are located in Ogden and have bin system set up. Thank you YYC !! We can do this.

In this Beginners Corset Making Class, @funwithbras will take you through the basics of the corset materials, pattern manipulation, and construction of a double layer under the bust and or over the bust corset. You will finish this class with a fully finished double layer, fully boned underbust/overbust corset and the knowledge and skill to create a basic corset! This course is perfect for costumers, students, and dressmakers who would like a better understanding of how to create a corset. Basic sewing experience is required to fully benefit from this class.

Indigo is a versatile dye that lends itself perfectly to shaped resist, clamp, and numerous other traditional techniques. Participants will create samples with a variety of natural fibres and take home worksheets to allow easy exploration at home. Overdying samples will also be explored and participants will take home a personal hand-dyed tea towel.
